ABOUT US
About the Project
Samu’t Sari is our love letter to Filipino Maximalism, or the cultural trait to maximalize everything in our lives, from the way our furniture is arranged to the keepsakes we hold on to so sentimentally.
Inspired by common experiences shared whilst growing up in Filipino households, as well as the little instances of maximalism seen every day, we wanted to share this trait with other Filipinos, so that it may never be forgotten.
Samu’t Sari is dedicated to the celebration of Filipino Maximalism, and to our sentimentality, ingenuity, and natural creativity. Taking our name from the Filipino phrase ‘samot-sari,’ or ‘a diverse array of items,’ Samu’t Sari embraces its namesake by incorporating a wide array of multimedia outputs to introduce more Filipinos to the wonderful mindset of Filipino Maximalism.
Backed by anthropologists, historians, and other experts, our goal is to help Filipinos define and understand Filipino Maximalism and to know why we practice it. Plus, with interviews from real-life Filipino Maximalists, we hope to inspire Filipinos to practice their own maximalism and continue to enrich our culture in their own way.
Samu’t Sari is a project conceptualized by five students studying at the College of Saint Benilde in partial fulfilment of their thesis requirement.
