DOCUMENTARY

From ornate church altars, to decorated jeepneys, to households and streets during the holidays, it is clear that Filipinos celebrate things in abundance and with extravagance. Filipino culture is one for maximalism, but why is that so? This episode will explore the context of maximalism in the Philippines, and how it manifests in the peoples’ artistic and lifestyle choices.

The Filipino brand of maximalism is more than just the image of aesthetics and comfort of memories, it is a testament to the resourcefulness and resilience that the people are known for. The second episode takes a look into the historical hardships that the people of the Philippines had to face, the results of their adaptability, and how that shaped their talent in making the best out of what they have.

There is no culture without art, and in a culture of maximalism, Filipinos often express themselves extravagantly, and unapologetically. The third episode sees how Filipinos apply maximalism in their art, the intentions behind their collections, and the stories they wish to share to the world.
